Memories Are Cheap: In the Middle of September

In the middle of September we'd still play out in the rain
Nothing to lose but everything to gain
Reflecting now on how things could've been
It was worth it in the end

September by Daughtry

Time flies when you're having fun. Can't believe it's been 5 years (and were not even in our 30's). We were young back then, and I have to say it was the most important  decision for both of us. Who would have thought we'd last this long. To @shielavanilla you're the sweetest. Thanks for being supportive to all my endeavors.

Boracay Sundown and Lack of Judgement

Epic Boracay night starts with
a lovely afternoon

Where Great Minds Meet

When you're in Boracay, daytime are mostly spent on  resting from the numerous beach activities or  recovering  from the hangover you had. A better way to perk you up and get going for the coming night would be dropping by at Real coffee and Tea Cafe.

Real Coffee and Tea Cafe

If you happened to be walking at station 2 there's an small alley between Hawaiian BBQ  and Free Willy Dive Shop these will lead you to the said cafe. Real cafe is home to the Boracay's popular calamansi muffin. I was curios to try these yummy muffins so I bugged my wife to visit the place. She was still sleepy at that time though.
Waiting
Take a bite, it's alright
Anyway the muffin cost around 40 per piece. A little bit expensive for a muffin, yes.. but the distinct tangy taste of calamansi made it up for that. When you bite into one, you'll know exactly what the fuss was about. It's actually heavy and compact compare to other muffins, you're not biting into thin air. Simply delicious.
The place is owned by an American Lee Rosaia, who probably fell in love with the island and settled there. I wasactually looking forward to talk to her but she was busy with other customers. Their muffins are also available in boxes (great for pasalubong by the way), make sure to order them beforehand and pick them up before you leave.

The owner, Lee Rosaia talking to some customers.
After devouring on calamansi muffin, we decided to walk to Station 3. I was quite surprised because there were a lot of people  considering it was Monday at that time.

Back to D'Mall, the wife decided to go back to our hotel, probably got tired of too much walking. I decided to stay at the beach to take some last pictures of Boracay. As the sun goes down, Boracay even becomes more lively. People walking at the beach, paraw sailing, people taking pictures, skim boarding and all sort of activities that the island has to offer.
\

What actually caught my attention were the kids skim-boarding. What actually caught my attention were the kids(forgot their name) skim-boarding, they were all action.
Yun oh, Game Face!
Shadow of the Day
Lapse of Judgement

By night time the beach is filled with several buffet, giving us a hard time where to settle for dinner. Since most of them  are on the same price range we eventually found ourselves at Kalinga. The buffet cost is 250Php per person and bottomless iced tea. The service was OK but most of their meal were too damn cold (from the rice, soup all the way to the tuna). Maybe the strong wind has something to do with it but they could have at least served it warm. Bumawi na lang kami sa hipon.
Forgettable
We capped of our final night at Pat's Creek bar, a nice spot to enjoy round of beers and get a feel of acoustic vibe. So there we were lazing on the bar's drift wood chairs. Most of the songs they cover were from the 90's (Alanis, Cranberries etc.). Since we have an early flight the next day we head back to our place around 11PM.

Sugar Rush and Windy Affairs

Our third day  in Boracay started of with our search for the legendary Jonah's Shake. One of my friends who has been to the island a lot of times told us not to ever leave without slurping some Jonah's shake. Currently there are two location of this popular  spot, one on the main road and other is in the beachfront near Willy's rock. We decided to go the beachfront since the ambiance is more enjoyable there. It is actually a long walk from our place and the high tide also made it even harder to pass by the beach.

Finally
We went in and quite surprised that there were only a few customers at that time.  The place is relatively small but the colorful and bright colors made it up for the lack of space.  We only ordered fries, mango crepe and shake since we ate a lot in our hotel. The fries was the first to arrived then followed by the crepe. After a few minutes we finally got our shake.

The shake was really delicious and extra creamy. Quite pricey for a shake, but eventually we find ourselves having difficulty to consume it all.  Indeed no trip to Boracay is complete without trying Jonah's shake.

We eventually had our stomach full after our early merienda. We decided to walk around town to get to know a little bit of the Aklanons besides the usual beach bumming. First stop was the Holy Rosary Parish Church at the towns plaza. it isn't as big as other churches in the country but it does have the "church" feel on it.

**Although not shown in the picture, there were streamers denouncing the establishment of Casino in the island.

Another popular beach in Boracay would be Bulabog beach aka as the Kite Mecca, it is located on the east side of the Boracay (opposite of White Beach). Most of the windsurfers and kite-boarders enthusiast take advantage of its steady winds during the months of November and April.

Bulabog Beach

Through the years, Bulabog has put the stamp on the world map as one of the top windsurfing and kite-boarding beaches in Asia. It is less developed compare to that of the White Beach but it's worth it going there. The sun was scorching hot when we walked around Bulabog beach good thing our friends bound to Manila want to meet us up for lunch at D'Mall.

Walking back to D'Mall
We skipped on the lunch thanks to the merienda we had earlier. After a few chitchats we head to Boracay Showdown in D'Mall to play some shoot around We bid goodbye to our friends since their flight  is in Kalibo  and go back to our hotel.

Tales of Amaretto and Fire Dancers

Chillin' Like a Villain

Any night with good friends to hangout and rounds of beers or cocktails is always a big thumbs up for me. I think we partied too hard on our first night so we decided to chill for our second night and Juice Bar was the perfect spot. It wasn't crowded at that time and luckily we were able to avail of their happy hour rates on beers and cocktails. There were comfy beanbags outside to sit on, too bad most of the tables were reserved for a group of Taiwanese guests. Their playlist at that time tend to play a lot of chill out music, which was perfect by the way to suit our mood. I highly recommend this place if you're planning to party or just simply chill in Boracay. Juice Bar is located at the Corner of the Plazoleta in Station 2, home to Boracay's arts and crafts.

The Chori-Burger Fix

A Boracay experience wouldn't be complete without trying Chori burger,a popular street food in the island. Chori Burger is actually a grilled sausage (parang longganisa) stuffed in a grilled hotdog bun. For 50 pesos I must say that this is a delectable and affordable treat. Some are actually selling it for 40 pesos.

Gotta love Isaw!
Pardon for the poor pic...gutom na eh.
Personally I love the sweet and spicy taste that lingers in your taste buds once you take a bite of it, a perfect drink to complement this snack would be a cold mango shake. It is available every afternoon in almost barbeque stands outside of D'Mall .
Playing with Fire
Playing With Fire

Sandar was the last stop of the night. Fire dancing also known as fire twirling is another popular attraction in Boracay. I was amazed with the fire dancers as they skillfully toss and groove to popular tunes to the delight of the crowd. Their gracefulness with the added element of danger make their performance more appealing and entertaining. They would even lit up your cigarette using their poi. We were virtually amazed that we didn't even order a single drink while we were in Sandbar,  make sure to give a tip though. And that concludes our second Boracay night out.
